SAS works by sensing various factors which could lead to lateral instability and cause potential lateral overturn. Once these conditions are detected, SAS instantly engages the Swing Lock Cylinder to stabilize the rear axle. When this device is engaged, the lift truck's stability footprint is changed from being triangular in shape to rectangular. This change in stance results in an increase in stability and substantially reduces the chance of a lateral overturn from occurring. The Active Mast Function or the Active Control Rear Stabilizer additionally adds extra stability and immensely helps accidents and injuries from happening.
