Aisle Types
Lift trucks are classified due to the types of aisles they have been designed to operate in. Narrow Aisle and Wide Aisle lift trucks are designed to turn in the aisle, whilst Very Narrow Aisle trucks really don't turn within the aisle. There are certain aisle widths to take into consideration with various units.
Very Narrow Aisle trucks can work in less than 6 feet areas, whereas some will use specific guidance systems such as rail, wire or optical systems in order to travel within the aisles. Several different models of VNA trucks consist of Order Selectors, Turret Trucks and Swing Masts. These are common kinds in compact retail areas and in several warehouse and storage situations.
Narrow Aisle trucks can work within aisles from 8 feet to 10 feet wide. Generally these are stand-up models such as Reach Trucks. They are often used within warehouses and storage facilities.
Wide Aisle Standard forklifts fall into this truck category and are designed to work within aisles that are more than 11 feet wide.
Stand-Up Ergonomics
The "Ergomat" padding on stand-up units provide padding on a sloped floorboard. These features are designed to reduce operator exhaustion by absorbing vibration. The compartment for the operator is really large and has an 8" low step height that helps lessen overall body fatigue by easing frequent exit and entry. The unit consists of polyurethane steer tires to absorb vibration and shocks caused by uneven floor in order to enable smooth traveling. For additional comfort, there is a cushioned armrest and floor mat together with a backrest designed to help keep operators comfortable and thus more productive while limiting fatigue.
