Lift trucks are essential pieces of machinery utilized commonly in business, especially in distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling plants. A forklift truck is constructed of hundreds of parts, including the cab, the carriage, the power source, the wheels and the engine. Forklifts generally have a range of attachments as well. The following are some of the most essential lift truck parts.

Engine of the Forklift - At the back of the equipment, the forklift has its power source. The different types of engine on the forklift will require varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an IC engine could have any of the following as its power source: gasoline, diesel, CNG gas or LP gas. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.

Frame of The Truck - The frame of the truck is the base of the lift truck and the most vital of all the lift truck parts. This forms the core of the machine. All other lift truck components are attached to the base, like the counterweight, overhead guard, mast, wheels and axles. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks could also be part of the frame assembly.

Counterweight Lift Truck Parts - While lifting heavy cargo, the counterweight allows the machine to be balanced. This particular part is cast iron and comes attached to the back of the forklift. The counterbalance balances the truck frame to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. In an electric forklift, the heavy lead-acid battery offers balance and may work as part of the counterweight.

The Cab Area - this area is where the operator sits and drives the machine. Several lift trucks have a cab area which is open to the air and several have closed cabs. There are many components situated within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such essential parts like for instance the pedals, seats, switches, levers, steering wheel and operator controls. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
