On a forklift, there is a range of different means which lower and raise the lifts, like: rack and pinion lifts, scissor lifts, telescoping lifts, screw lifts and articulated lifts. The scissor lift uses crisscrossed folding supports with a screw mechanism that draws the members together. Rack and pinion lifts utilize a pinion, which is a small drive gear, to drive a straight-toothed rack to lift the cargo. The telescoping lift mechanism is made with many parts which extend and retract out of and into each other to achieve lifting action. Screw lifts use threads to raise the lift. Articulated lifts use a mechanism involving many parts that unfold or articulate. An articulated lift example is the "cherry picker."
Forklift Material Handling
There are lots of reasons to keep up with innovations in material handling processes. Material handling machinery and the methods could be utilized to deal with more SKUs, increased geographical coverage, and the requirement to lower inventories. Machines that are well ahead of the technological curve can help maximize efficiency and increase profitability.
Lift truck Battery & Charging Technology
The latest innovations on electric lift trucks have yielded longer run-times and higher capacities than ever before, that makes the decision to convert from the traditional IC forklift over to the improved electric units. Charger and battery combinations are offering much more power for much longer periods than older systems can achieve. Enhancements in charger and battery technologies are not just making electric forklifts more productive but they are making it possible to have more environmentally friendly warehouse operations.
These new batteries are known as Li-ion batteries or Lithium-Ion batteries. This technology is still somewhat new, but Li-ion batteries show remarkable promise. They are not only smaller but can hold up to six times the charge of traditional lead acid batteries. Li-ion batteries have very low maintenance requirements and can maximize opportunity charging through zero memory technology.
