Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to create an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is ideal for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machinery use either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator would have to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the identical lifting technology as a standard scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for surfaces which are not even. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket that is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled equipment. These equipment provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
