A stock picker, also called an order picker is a machinery which is somewhat similar to a forklift. It enables the driver to use forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking some objects, and this feature is something the forklift does not offer. Normally, order pickers are operated by electricity. These machinery are mostly utilized in a warehouse environment. Most often they are utilized for moving pallets and doing certain jobs in the stocking and shelving department.
The operator of the oder picker sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the equipment backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. As soon as the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades could be lifted up to the required level that makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for instance, if the materials required, are located on a shelf which the operator could not reach, then whole platform could be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
After the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker can be driven to its next load. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, although, several companies may have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker can also place pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts can be used to complete these particular tasks at some companies instead.
